“You must do the thing you think you cannot do” – Eleanor Roosevelt
In 1987, Congress declared March as National Women’s History Month in perpetuity. A special Presidential Proclamation is issued every year which honors the extraordinary achievements of American women.
As a woman Entrepreneur, I like to encourage young women to believe in themselves and reach for whatever they want to accomplish in life.
I recently met a young woman at a local restaurant serving my dinner. I engaged her in conversation about what her aspirations were for her future. She told me she had recently graduated from high school and wanted to go to college to study social work. She proceeded to tell me that her family discouraged her from her choice because they did not feel it was a good career path. I talked to her about that advice and she seemed very discouraged. At 18 years of age and not knowing which direction to go, she was thinking and pondering her future. I encouraged her in that short conversation to look at her options, get some counseling for her future and to believe in herself.
I have 2 young Granddaughters & 2 Great Nieces who I believe have the world at their fingertips. I will encourage them all to reach beyond their comfort zone and strive for greatness.
Women’s History Month is about recognizing women’s strengths, learning from the past endeavors of great women and to reach for the future and then to be a role model for the future generation.
